MAY 26th

After having a break from the physical work, we finished the Archive and the Journal. So we meet at Nood Asian Fusion to prepare for our presentation and sort things out one last time.

Tomorrow is [the]DAY.

We returned to the faculty and get things done! If you have trouble, make it double - it actually took us the whole day. But the thing is done!

With this, we once again wanted to make a statement that with no signage system in a particular space, you end up trapped in a mess. We still want signage…

MAY 17th

Time to start the second part of our project, which is putting a mess over the map. We managed to sort out what to implement on each map and prepare files for printing on transparent paper after occupying the whole space in front of the elevator.

Somehow we forgot it’s Saturday so the majority of print shops was closed, but we went to a place in Saldanha and they did a really good job! Tomorrow we return to the faculty again for the final thing. And then – we wait.

Perhaps it’s time to say, that things went better than expected.

Second day of implementing maps. Blažka and Lara finished the one in ground floor and later on we all proceeded to floor 1. After a few coffee breaks and resolving final solutions with the red X on the floor, we packed our things and left our project for the weekend.

Tomorrow we will check if people are interacting with it; they should thou! And we are having high expectations on creative writing in floor 1.

At 10 o’clock we were ready to hand in the forms; we will have to wait for them to be signed by the principal. However, we started with work in the second floor during the waiting and after 7 hours it was set. A wall in each floor for 12 days.

We had a lot of fun (and problems, of course; if there were no problems, it wouldn’t be us) and coffee, placing the map on the wall, two more to go! On the other hand, Ivan is having quite a lot of difficulties working with us, since he has to lean over us to stick the tape to the wall and he was calling us patuljci all the time. Ah well, but we got used to this working-at-height joke.

MAY 13th

Searching for the pink ladies with green forms and – voilà! Presenting the concept one more last time, explaining ourselves in the messiest way ever, getting the permission and… Not handing it to the office.

Closed till tomorrow.

We should talk to the professors before we made an appointment and started preparing files for cutting (which by the way took us forever). Learning through mistakes… Again. We need to find another way to present our project and expose the problem of the signage, but stop pretending to be official and stop trying to implement the real thing. Perhaps, we took it way too serious.

So PLAN E, concept number five. WHAT A MESS. A mess. Mess. We will create a mess! To show a statement, that a mess leads us… Nowhere? A signage that is all messed up or a space that is lacking a way finding system – is a mess. So placing maps and different orientations over it would create a chaos of words, places and marks, that would point out exactly what we were trying to do but unfortunately had too many difficulties doing it.

Is the day saved now?

MAY 8th

We met in Hobbit Hole (room 4.26) at the faculty. We have another vision of how to make this parallel map of interactions. Creating actual map of each floor, placing them and see what people write on them. After this, we will use the results of it and include them under the actual signage!

This way we have the double vision of signage and we still keep both parts: the serious part and the fun part. However, we are first presenting the idea - once more - to the professors, since the whole thing is going to be expensive even thou they will be using our material. But we’re willing to pay! So we scheduled an appointment for Monday and if approved by the professors – the signage is going to be cut by the end of the week, yay!

We need our lives back after all this.

We are kind of desperate. What have we put ourselves into?!

Walking around from printing shop to printing shop, sending out e-mails and calling all the time, since we don’t want to throw away all of our material. By the end of the day, we found a printing shop in Alvalade, so we are going there again tomorrow to discuss the whole thing and prepare the files again (we have to put them in CS2). Tomorrow we are arranging a meeting before the cutting appointment.
